FPP Craft Camp, Week 1: Summer Pocket Necklaces
From fallen flower buds to obscure sea glass to that absolutely-perfect-must-have-specimen of common rock, there are so many treasures to gather in the summer, and never the right place to put them. Our Summer Pocket Necklace might just be the perfect special spot!
These portable Pockets are made using 100% wool felt in bold, summery colors, and they come together in a cinch - even for little hands! Find the template for our Summer Pocket Necklace with the Little Leaf closure for FREE right here (keep scrolling for full instructions). Templates for all of the other closures are included in our Felt Charm Necklaces Paper Pattern (plus about 50 more!).
Invite some friends over, blast your favorite summer tunes, and get crafting! When you’re all finished, let the summer treasure hunting begin!
You will need …
A Summer Pocket Necklace Paper Pattern, printed and cut out
A Felt Charm Necklaces Paper Pattern (optional)
(these are enough materials to make 4 Necklaces)
Main Color Felt (Two 7 1/2 x 6 - inch pieces of 100% wool felt in 2 colors)
Accent Color Felt (Four 2 x 2 - inch pieces of 100% wool felt in 4 colors)
One skein of embroidery floss
CUT THE PATTERN PIECES FROM THE FELT
Use the paper pattern to trace and cut …
1 Pocket Back from the Main Color
1 Pocket Front from the Main Color
1 Closure from the Accent Color*
*If you are using Charms from the Felt Charm Necklaces paper pattern, first cut the Charm template that you are using from the template sheet, then use this to cut the Closure.
Transfer the Markings from the paper pattern onto the felt pieces (we used a water soluble fabric marker).
PREPARE THE BACK POCKET
Snip along the short marked line on the Pocket Back: Fold the piece in half lengthwise and use small, sharp scissors to cut along the marked line. This is the Button hole.
Follow the directions as for the Sweetheart Pocket Necklace, starting at the SEW! section.
